Frequently asked questions
I increased the limit but it doesn't work (finish)
If the notes do not come out of the ATM, there is often a technical malfunction. This is also shown on the screen. The transaction has been aborted by the ATM. Check your account to see if the amount has been debited. If it has, the amount is in most cases automatically reversed within a few minutes. This may vary from bank to bank.
If this does not happen, contact your bank. They will start an investigation, note down the time, date and ATM number. You will find these details on your statement of account.
Geldmaat can only look at what happened in the ATM. Due to privacy laws, we are not allowed to view your account details. The bank can.
The bank takes action and contacts Geldmaat if necessary.
You can also be a victim of cash trapping, so always check if you see anything suspicious. How do you recognise such a cash trap? Normally there is a recess on the ATM where your money comes out, of about two to three centimetres. If there is a metal plate in front of it that makes it invisible or only a few millimetres, something is not right. Do you suspect cash trapping? Then call the police or the number on the ATM.
During a transaction, it may happen that a deposit gets stuck. In that case, you will see a notification of this on the screen. If your money is jammed in the process, contact your bank.
Your bank will record the incident and investigations may follow, with the aim of recovering the stalled money and crediting it to your account.
Withdraw cash safely
When withdrawing money, pay attention to the following:
- Do not let anyone stand close to you.
- Don't get distracted.
- Always shield the PIN.
- Never let a stranger help you.
- Pay attention to the amount shown on the screen.
- Don't count the money too conspicuously.
Don't feel safe at an ATM? Then find another ATM or come back later. You can find cash machines near you on the locator.
Criminals try to intercept money at ATMs by putting a fake issue valve in front of the real one. The money gets stuck there and the customer does not receive the withdrawn money. When the customer walks away, the criminals spring into action, take away the fake issue valve and the intercepted money and run off.
**How can you tell if a vending machine is fitted with a fake issue valve? The flap looks a lot like the real flap, but it stands over it. This makes the flap much thicker. You can see this best at the keyboard. Without the fake flap, the keyboard can be seen in its entirety. The fake flap falls a bit over it.
